Having always surrounded herself in music, Lucy began her career in student radio at Exeter University presenting and leading the station Xpression FM.

After graduating, Lucy landed a place on the prestigious Where It Begins Scheme at BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra. Her 2 month placement saw her work with Annie Mac, Huw Stephens, Toddla T and Danny Howard. Lucy then lunged into working at Rinse FM and Folded Wing and now is back at Radio 1 & 1Xtra - working across both network's weekend output.

In conversation with Lucy:

What makes you a phenomenal woman?

When thinking about this question, two things kept coming back to me.

1. I'm pretty fucking ambitious. I wanted to pursue a career in radio and music, which let's face it, is not an easy path to choose. I didn't know anyone in the industry so I had no boost up in any way.  I didn't take no for an answer and worked my arse off to get where I am today.

2. I don't take shit from anyone. Growing up as a tiny ginger girl, I was prime target for anyone looking for someone to pick on. I just didn't let anyone get away with it.

With your adult wisdom you have acquired, what would you say to your pubescent, teenage self about your worries?

Genuinely, everything does work out. I also spent far too much time growing up wishing I looked like someone else: I hated my hair, my height, how small my boobs were! Now my hair is my thang, being short literally doesn't matter in any way (apart from trying to reach the top shelf in shops) and having small boobs is AMAZING. Try and own what makes you you.

Plus, don't waste your time on people who won't put in the time with you. Life is too short so surround yourself with people who appreciate and support you.

What did you grow up calling your vagina/vulva area?

From my memory, I'm pretty sure it was just a plain old vagina in our house. Growing up with a sister, we were a female dominate household - we didn't tend to tip toe around the subjects of sex and puberty. If we had a worry or a question - we would just ask. We were open. I imagine the term fanny was used on occasions for comedic effect but otherwise, nothing fluffy or sweet. It is what it is!
